Lions Cut DB Jamal Adams From Practice Squad

The Detroit Lions recently announced the release of safety Jamal Adams. They signed him to the practice squad on December 1 and released him a month later, before the NFL playoffs started. Therefore, the veteran defensive back will be a free agent, allowing him to sign with any team.

While Adams didn’t make it to the main roster, the Lions continued to win, compiling a 14-2 record before the final week of the regular season. Their success and the exceptional play of Kerby Joseph, Brian Branch, and Ifeatu Melifonwu lessened the need for Adams.

The safety from LSU was among the best defensive backs in his heyday. He became a First-Team All-Pro member two years after the New York Jets selected him in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Adams also became a Second-Team All-Pro member in 2018 (with the Jets) and 2020 (with the Seattle Seahawks). He also received three consecutive Pro Bowl nods from 2018 to 2020.

Sadly, injuries affected his availability after the 2021 NFL season. After playing 12 games in 2021, he was limited to one game in 2022 after suffering a torn quad tendon. A year later, he played only nine games for the Seahawks, leading to his release.

Adams started the 2024 season with the Tennessee Titans but was granted release after three games. As of 2024, Adams has 498 tackles, 36 passes defended, 21.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, and four interceptions in 83 career games. He scored is lone touchdown in 2019 with the Jets.
