The New England Patriots named Mike Vrabel their 16th head coach, replacing Jerod Mayo, who held the role for only one season. Before taking this role, he was the Tennessee Titans head coach for six seasons, leading them to three playoff appearances and a stint in the AFC Championship Game.
Vrabel has deep ties with the Patriots because he played for them from 2001 to 2008. While representing New England, he won three Super Bowls and earned his lone All-Pro selection. Vrabel is also on the Patriots Hall of Fame, the All-Dynasty Team, the All-2000s team, and the 50th Anniversary Team.

In addition to his stint with Tennessee, Vrabel was once the Houston Texans defensive coordinator. Last year, he became a coaching and personal consultant for the Cleveland Browns.
While the Patriots won only four games with Mayo this season, Vrabel has some bright spots working for him. In addition to having a young and talented quarterback in Drake Maye, the Patriots have the fourth overall pick and $130 million in cap space for 2025.
Using those factors correctly will help Vrabel turn around the team’s fortunes. The Patriots haven’t had a winning record since 2021 and a playoff victory since winning Super Bowl LIII, culminating in the 2018 season.
