Taking Care of the Ball Matters in Playoff Football

The competition gets tougher with each passing playoff round. Therefore, teams need to take care of the ball to bolster their winning hopes. While it’s not the main reason for their success, avoiding turnovers helped the Divisional Round winners advance to their respective Conference Championship games.

The Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Washington Commanders, and Philadelphia Eagles had zero turnovers in their victories. Avoiding those takeaways was vital in the Bills’ victory over the Baltimore Ravens. While the Bills were underdogs at home, they played error-free football to escape Baltimore’s comeback. The game’s outcome might have been different if Lamar Jackson did not throw an interception or lost a fumble.

Meanwhile, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff threw three interceptions, which might have aided the Commanders to victory. The Lions had five turnovers despite having a home-field advantage against Washington.

Finally, the Los Angeles Rams had two turnovers during their encounter against Philadelphia. Kyren Williams fumbled the ball, leading Isaiah Rodgers to scoop the ball up for a 40-yard gain. The Rams also had a turnover on downs in the fourth quarter.
