Raiders Hire Pete Carroll as Head Coach

The Las Vegas Raiders made a splash with their head coaching hire, going for Associated Press National Champion and Super Bowl winner Pete Carroll on a three-year deal with a fourth-year option. The 73-year-old coach’s last assignment was with the Seattle Seahawks, which he coached from 2010 to 2023. Before joining Seattle, he also transformed USC into a college football powerhouse.

The Raiders are getting a proven winner in Carroll, especially after leading the Seahawks to a lopsided Super Bowl XLVIII victory over the Denver Broncos. They made the Super Bowl again the following season but lost in the final play to the New England Patriots.

Carroll will be joining an elite AFC West coaching group, which includes Jim Harbaugh (National Champion, Super Bowl appearance), Sean Payton (Super Bowl champion), and Andy Reid (three-time Super Bowl champion).

Pete Carroll would have a hand in building the Raiders’ roster, especially in addressing their quarterback situation. They had three starting quarterbacks this season, with Gardner Minshew having the most starts with nine. Aidan O’Connell had seven while Desmond Ridder had one.

However, Carroll has sensational players in All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers and All-Pro defensive end Maxx Crosby. Likewise, Carroll will be the oldest coach in NFL history once the 2025 season starts as he turns 74 in September.
