Who will rest in Week 18?

Week 18 is coming up; most fantasy teams are done, but some still playing. There are a lot of uncertain situations involving resting players or not, discussed in the forthcoming Weekly. But a few early guesses, alphabetically.

  • Buffalo could get a higher seed, but it's not all in their control. Also, Josh Allen has a foot injury, and Dalton Kincaid missed last week with a knee injury. And James Cook is a franchise running back they can't afford to risk getting hurt. Should be Mitchell Trubisky (pictured) at quarterback, and Ray Davis as the main runner with Ty Johnson in passing situations. (Unless they go with even deeper reserves up off the practice squad.) I think Jackson Hawes will be the best tight end. I also don't think Khalil Shakir will play (none of their other middling wideouts are of enough importance to hold out, I don't think). Good news for the Bills is they're hosting the Jets and could probably win even if they called up a bunch of middle-aged players out of retirement.

  • Chicago wants the higher seed, with a potential better matchup in the first game and a home game in the Divisional Round. They should be playing starters against Detroit.

  • Dallas should be playing starters, with the possible exception of two banged-up guys -- Javonte Williams and Jake Ferguson. I'm interested in Luke Schoonmaker at tight end. If Javonte sits, though, Dallas could use some combination of Malik Davis and Jaydon Blue. Matchup is good (the Giants), but I'm not sure how the backfield carries will be divvied up. Blue worth adding just in case.

  • Denver needs to win for the bye, they're playing starters.

  • Green Bay is the seventh seed, starters are resting.

  • Houston needs to win to potentially win the AFC South, starters are playing. Jacksonville, same boat.

  • L.A. Chargers are holding out Justin Herbert, and probably others.

  • L.A. Rams say they're playing starters. They want to win, maybe get a higher seed (although that's out the window if the 49ers beat Seattle on Saturday night, so keep an eye on Sunday morning reports).

  • New England needs to win and have Denver lose to get a bye. It's unlikely, but the Patriots can't risk Denver being upset and missing out on a week off because they held out starters. They may pull guys early, if Denver is winning big, but I think Drake Maye et al will play at least the first half.

  • A report today says Philadelphia will be resting starters. They have a chance at a higher seed, if the Bears lose to the Lions. But I don't have any reason to doubt the guys reporting that the Eagles will sit Hurts, Barkley et al out.

I think that's everyone, aside from the obvious teams playing starters because they have very meaningful games or because they don't have anyone worth resting.

Good luck, Week 18 competitors.
