With Reggie Bush gone in free agency, Lamar Miller is next in line for the starting the job. The Dolphins are stopping short of handing him the full-time job, but realistically, that's how things will turn out.
As Omar Kelly writes in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Miller is the front-runner, but the team needs him to show he can pass protect. If that proves to be a problem, it opens the door for Daniel Thomas or rookie Mike Gillislee to step in.
Offseason depth charts, though, are pretty unreliable. Often you'll see veterans taking first reps when most are well aware that the team has already moved on from those players, drafting and developing replacements who are far more likely to start than they are. That seems to apply to Thomas; he's not in the team's plans as anything more than a supporting role.
Miller, who averaged 4.9 yards per carry as a rookie, is the guy; that's why the team was so willing to let Bush leave.
Miller is an interesting guy in fantasy drafts -- a possible feature back whose resume is so thin that he'll be available a lot later than other projected starters. There's risk there, but ample reward for fantasy owners who can get him outside the first few rounds.
