Russell Wilson Part II

Big-time numbers in the second half of last year

Here's the fantasy numbers for the top 20 quarterbacks during the second half of last season. Russell Wilson shows up at No. 4 -- way ahead of Robert Griffin III and Andrew Luck.

I had a mini-debate yesterday with James Costello of Little Portland. He says he doesn't see what everyone else does with Russell Wilson -- that he's overrated.

I agree somewhat. I think Wilson won't nearly as often this season, which will hurt his fantasy value. But there's no arguing that he's a young, rising quarterback.

Yesterday, I posted some NFL-type stats for Wilson (with passer rating and completion percentage). Costello argued that those aren't fantasy categories. So here's the fantasy-adjusted version of the same chart: the top 20 quarterbacks in the second half of last season.

Shown are passing yards, rushing yards, TD passes and TD runs. The "points" uses 4 points for TD passes, 6 for TD runs, 1 for 20 yards passing and 1 for every 10 yards rushing. It doesn't include 2-point conversions, and no penalties for interceptions.

If you go negative-2 points for interceptions, Wilson moves up to No. 2.

Ian in my league qbs get no points till they hit 200 yards then its a point every 25 yards. But they get 1 point for every ten rushing yards. That means a guy like Wilson who rushes for 40 yards gets more points than a guy who throws for 290 yards. How valuable does that make Wilson or rg3 or Kapernick?

Wilson and RG3, I think, will run a lot less this year. I don't think Kaepernick will be a running fool either. They'll pick their spots with him -- he'll run for big yards in some days -- but I think they realize they can't have him running too much if he's going to be an elite top-level quarterback.
