I’ve scouted all the teams, tracked all the developments and watched all the preseason games. I’m ready now to lock down on how this thing will unfold. I’ve gone through, taken a look at each of the 256 regular-season games, and I expected it will turn out something like this …

That’s using the system of giving each team some portion of a win for each game. If it’s a slam dunk (like the Raiders at the Broncos or the Jets at the Patriots) I’ve got those at 95 percent – Denver and New England get .95 of a win for those games. If it’s more of a coin-flip game (say, Ravens at Steelers) then I simply half the win for those ones – each team gets .5 of a win for that game.

Using that process (and the itemized forecasts are below), you get the win totals above. It’s a mixture of what I think the teams are, and the schedule they’ll play.

So ultimately, in January, we could be looking at this …

First-round byes: Patriots, Broncos, Seahawks, Saints.

Other division winners: Ravens, Colts, Packers, Giants.

Wild cards: Bengals, Texans, 49ers, Falcons.

Super Bowl: Patriots over Seahawks.

Picking first next spring: Raiders.
