Jamaal Charles scored 5 TDs last week against Oakland, so it stands to reason that he'll probably follow that up with another 2-3 TDs against a suspect Indianapolis, defense? Not so fast. The track record for players coming off these kind of games is surprisingly iffy. Ian Allan explains.
For this one, I simply called up the list of all players who've scored 5 TDs in a game since 1960. This includes one player (Gale Sayers) who scored 6.
Then I checked the game logs to see how said players did in their NEXT games.
Surprisingly, they didn't do all that well. Maybe they were worn out. Maybe opponents tended to key on them. And maybe some of it was just the ups, downs and chance of the season.
But of those 11 players, over half didn't score at all in their next game. Only one (Clinton Portis) managed to make it up to 2 TDs.
Not suggesting anyone tries to get clever and leave Jamaal Charles out of a fantasy lineup, but here are the numbers ...
