Who's No. 2 in San Diego?

Alexander, Royal uncertainty cloud the issue

The San Diego Chargers had the league's 6th-ranked passing offense last season, and figure to be a top-10 group again in 2014. Offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt is gone, but the team promoted Frank Reich from within, and head coach Mike McCoy had a hand in that offense anyway.

Keenan Allen will be the No. 1 wideout, but after that things get murky, especially after yesterday's report that Danario Alexander recently had an additional ACL surgery. Alexander tore his ACL last preseason and was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent, but was in the mix to return as San Diego's other starter. Now it's fair to wonder if his 2014 season, and career, are already over. (He's had multiple surgeries on both knees at this point.)

So who's No. 2? Malcom Floyd suffered a neck injury last year, and his career may also be over. Vincent Brown managed to start 12 games for San Diego last year while catching just 1 TD. He averaged only 30 yards per game, shocking for a weekly starter in a top-10 passing offense.

Eddie Royal? He's under contract, but is due $4.5 million in 2014. Royal caught 8 TDs last season, but only 3 of those came after Week 2. He caught exactly one pass in each of San Diego's two playoff games. He was a big part of the red-zone offense all season, but might not have been productive enough to keep around unless he takes a paycut.

San Diego has most of its needs on the defensive side of the ball, but it's a team that could be looking to add a starting wideout, as well, either through free agency or the draft.

In any case, it looks like dynasty owners who haven't already given up on Alexander can do so now.
