DraftKings Week 5: How to be a Mill- ion- aire

No more messing around in DraftKings' salary cap game. I'll define messing around as my starting DeAngelo Williams last week, only to have him leave due to injury, as he so often does when you put any faith in him. The reason I'm not taking any chances this week is that DRAFT KINGS WILL PAY ONE WINNER $1 MILLION THIS WEEKEND. Yeah, that's right.

In this game you pick your best starting lineup within the confines of a salary cap. The competition gives participants a chance to win money from a $2.2 million prize pool, including $1,000,000 for first place. No, seriously!

Here are the contest details:

  • $2,200,000 prize pool
  • First place wins $1,000,000
  • $27 entry fee
  • Top 15,500 are paid
  • Starts Sunday, October, 5th at 1:00 EST.
  • Salary Cap Style Drafting. $50,000 to select 9 spots. 8 players and 1 defense
  • Roster Format: 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 Defense

(And bear in mind, you can also take advantage of the outrageous promotion that DraftKings has offered: First-time DraftKing players who sign up for the promotion via the Fantasy Index store, can deposit $40 and get the full Fantasy Index Weekly subscription free.

Here's my team.

Quarterback: Philip Rivers. Rivers paid off handsomely last week, and he's saved the teams where I drafted Tom Brady as my starter. He's home against the Jets, and you can't run on the Jets, but you can pass.

Running back/flex: DeMarco Murray, Rashad Jennings, Isaiah Crowell. Murray is the best running back in the league right now, home versus Houston. Jennings is a workhorse, home versus Atlanta. Crowell is the No. 2, but might be as good or better than Ben Tate (who could reasonably get hurt during the game or in warmups), and he's cheap.

Wide receivers: Julio Jones, Markus Wheaton, Doug Baldwin. Wheaton faces Jacksonville, whose pass defense is godawful. Baldwin is cheap and faces Washington, terrible in the secondary. Jones is one of the best wideouts in the league, and when all was said and done, I found out he could fit under my cap.

Tight end: Jimmy Graham. He's Jimmy Graham.

Defense: Seattle. Our top defensive play this week, facing Kirk Cousins.

Check out the competition at the above link, and good luck.
