I was checking a stat on NFL.com, when I noticed that they no longer list 300-yard passers. They used to have a deal where they’d list everyone who passed for at least 300 yards that week.
Now that it’s becoming so common, there are sometimes too many to list.
So rather than showing the 300-yard passers, that website is now simply showing the 10 quarterbacks who finished with the most passing yards.
That’s where we’re at now. The 300-yard game, a magical thing when they were putting them up in the ‘70s and ‘80s, has now become a throw-away stat.
I am surprised, by the way, to see that while passing production is up, the teams right now are on pace to finish with 122 of these games, which is pretty similar to what we’ve seen in the last three years.
