If you've been holding onto Adrian Peterson in hopes of him keying a fantasy playoff stretch drive, today's news suggests you've wasted a roster spot. The NFL has informed Peterson that he'll be suspended without pay for the remainder of the season.
Peterson has been out since Week 2, but he was still being paid; not serving an official league suspension, but on the exempt list. The NFL is now suspending him under its personal conduct policy; he'll be eligible for reinstatement next April.
Obviously, this isn't the last anyone will hear of this. The NFLPA is appealing the decision, saying it's "another example of the credibility gap that exists between the agreements they make and the actions they take." It's not hard to envision a scenario where Peterson is allowed to play while the league and the player's association battle it out.
For now, though, it will be Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata facing the Packers in Week 12.
