Larry Fitzgerald is 31 years old and currently has a huge cap number for the 2015 season, so there's been speculation that his time in Arizona is coming to an end. Apparently not, though, as ESPN is reporting.
The Cardinals appear set to bring Fitzgerald back with a new multi-year deal that will keep him in Arizona for the remainder of his career. Good news for them, not as good for those holding onto Michael Floyd and John Brown in dynasty leagues. Brown will likely remain in the No. 3 role in that offense and is less likely to be one of 2015's breakout wideouts.
Fitzgerald changing teams would also potentially have been interesting, if he'd gone to a wide-receiver poor team like Kansas City. Instead he'll return to Arizona as probably the team's 2nd-best wideout after Floyd. Brown and Floyd are both good enough receivers that Fitzgerald's days of producing at an elite, No. 1 level are behind him.
Fitzgerald missed two games last season, and put up his lowest yardage total (784) since his rookie season.
Say this for Fitzgerald, though: he was hurt by poor quarterbacking. His three games with at least 98 receiving yards and both of his touchdowns all came in games started by Carson Palmer. In those six games, Fitzgerald averaged 81 receiving yards.
In the eight games he played without Palmer, Fitzgerald averaged just 38 receiving yards and didn't score. His own injuries factored into those numbers, but clearly he was a lot better with a good quarterback in the lineup.
Fitzgerald won't be a coveted receiver in drafts next year, but if Arizona is able to keep Palmer healthy, he'll still be able to help fantasy teams.
