The Titans drafted Marcus Mariota at No. 2 overall, so there's little doubt that he's going to be their starting quarterback eventually. In 2015, though, there's some uncertainty, even though Ken Whisenhunt said when Mariota was drafted that him starting right away was "the plan."
Yesterday, beat writer Jim Wyatt reported that Ken Whisenhunt says Mariota will receive the majority of first-team reps in camp. So you can take that as another sign that the deck is stacked in favor of the rookie.
Mariota is making a positive first impression on his teammates. Left tackle Taylor Lewan is good friends with Zach Mettenberger, the other candidate to start, but has only good things to say about Mariota.
All that being said, Mettenberger is planning to fight for the job. "I don't [know] what the mindset is, but at the end of the day I can just control what I do and I'm extremely confident in myself, almost to a fault," said Mettenberger, in an article up at ESPN.com.
Most likely, it will be Mariota behind center in Week 1. But maybe the Titans will have one of those famous good problems to have, with two good quarterbacks on the roster.
