Johnny Manziel

Browns preparing to go with youngster, but you shouldn't

Josh McCown was knocked out of the Browns-Jets game with a concussion, suffered when he tried to dive over the goal line with the football and got blasted. Johnny Manziel played the rest of the game, but not very well.

With McCown in the league's concussion protocol, Cleveland is preparing to start Manziel against the Titans. This may seem like a good thing for Cleveland's offense, but don't be so sure.

I watched all of the Browns-Jets game, so you don't have to. And Manziel threw a nice touchdown to Travis Benjamin, and that was about it for the highlights.

After that, he threw a bad interception on an inaccurate downfield pass. Lost two fumbles after being sacked; had the ball simply swatted out of his hands. Missed an open Andrew Hawkins for what should have been a touchdown, too.

Manziel bring the rushing dimension as a scrambler, so there's that. He rushed for 35 yards, and had two other long runs wiped out by penalties. But he's a smaller guy, and defenders will probably be able to knock the ball out of his hand on some of those plays, or he'll get hurt. And the passing game with Manziel in the lineup shouldn't be very good.

The Titans aren't as good defensively as the Jets, but don't pick up Manziel with the idea he's going to be some kind of fantasy star. Most likely, he'll be back on the bench as soon as McCown is cleared.
