Whisenhunt axed

Things could get better for Titans

Ken Whisenhunt was fired by the Titans this morning, a move that can only be a positive for the Titans offense. Things could hardly get much worse; as noted elsewhere on this site, the team has been a pitifully low-scoring one this season.

More importantly, the new coach (assistant Mike Mularkey) could choose to make some moves that could make this team more interesting from a fantasy perspective. For example:

- Settling on one running back. Whisenhunt tried Bishop Sankey, Dexter McCluster and Antonio Andrew as his lead back in the first seven games, with Andrews the No. 1 guy of late. But Whisenhunt never really committed to keeping things that way, making it risky to put anyone into a lineup. Perhaps Mularkey will fully endorse Andrews, or Sankey, or rookie David Cobb, who should be available soon. Cobb apparently isn't in shape at present, but it's not like he has to beat out Eddie George for snaps.

- Giving Dorial Green-Beckham more snaps. Green-Beckham is a "green" rookie and might not fully understand the intricacies of an NFL offense. But what exactly are the Titans clinging to? Kendall Wright and Harry Douglas are hurt, Justin Hunter has never showed much. Green-Beckham might be a mess out there, but the good plays may be worth taking a few of the bad.

One thing is for sure, there's nowhere to go but up for Tennessee's offense.
