Panthers theoretically still motivated to win

Tricky end-of-the-season situation in Carolina, where if you own CAM NEWTON you probably rode him quite a ways in 2015 ... only to have him positioned to abandon you here in Week 17. The Panthers have not yet wrapped up home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, but the only team that could catch them is Arizona, which hosts a Seattle team that may be looking to make a statement as it heads into the Wild Card round. In other words, while the Panthers still need certain things to go well for them right now, the picture could look very different come halftime of either their own game against Tampa Bay or that Seattle-Arizona game -- so you just can't bank on a full game from Newton or any other player. To wit: RBs JONATHAN STEWART (foot) and FOZZY WHITTAKER (ankle) have both been ruled out. That could make a sneaky fantasy play of rookie CAMERON ARTIS-PAYNE, who's been very effective the last two weeks and now figures to carry a heavier load, but it's always possible for a team like this to throw multiple curveballs. Maybe both relevant games are tight; maybe the Panthers go up by 20 points early and it's Derek Anderson handing off to Mike Tolbert for the whole second half.
