Keenan Allen

Chargers' receiver piles up catches but not big plays

If you’re looking for big plays, best to stay away from Keenan Allen. Nice player; he catches lots of balls. But he doesn’t produce many of the big chunk plays downfield.

In this century, only 24 wide receivers have managed to catch over 100 passes in back-to-back seasons without hitting on a gain of 40-plus yards somewhere along the line. Allen’s in this group.

Dating back to 2000, only three wide receivers have caught more passes in a two-year period without hitting a long one at some point – Derrick Mason, Davone Bess and Keyshawn Johnson.

Three other current receivers have also been most short-ball artists the last two years – Andre Johnson and Roddy White, and Robert Woods.
