In a rather quiet transaction, the Patriots re-signed LeGarrette Blount to a one-year deal yesterday. Not a big move, but one with some import, at least in standard (yards and touchdowns) leagues.
Blount didn't have much of a market (any, really), but he fills a specific role for the Patriots. Carry on first and second down running plays and near the goal line, and get most of the snaps in the second half of games when New England is running out the clock.
Blount has parlayed that job into some fantasy value, with New England if nowhere else the last four seasons. In those years, he played 24 games with Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, and scored only 4 TDs; about once every six games. In contrast, he played in 33 games with the Patriots, and scored 17 TDs, so about once every other game. He's averaged 48-59 yards per game in those seasons; usable numbers in non-PPR formats.
Blount's numbers with the Patriots the last three years are below.
