Kansas City Defense

Group has had Carr's number

Derek Carr deserves some MVP consideration. He's having a great year, and he's one of the most mistake-free quarterbacks in the league. He's thrown only 5 interceptions and taken just 12 sacks in 12 games.

But if you have the Kansas City Defense, advice is to probably go ahead and start them anyway. Something about this opponent results in Carr playing poorly, serving up plenty of sacks and turnovers -- well above his averages.

Here's how Carr has fared in five career meetings with this defense. (TOs is turnovers; interceptions and lost fumbles.)

Andy, you don't think the play of Oakland's offensive line in pass blocking should be considered here? His O-line is negating elite pass rushes every week, isn't it? Don't think this time could be a turn around against the Chiefs? (He was 1-4 in those matchups). I thought his line play was that improved.

It should be considered. But they got him twice in the earlier meeting, and they didn't have Justin Houston for that game. I put them down for 2.3 sacks (i.e., 2 a little more likely than 3).

OK, Houston, and being at home, are big. He has just looked pretty hard to get to. Hill is as good as any punt returner in history. 4.25 in the open field can't be touched, so it can't be tackled. He, almost, returned 3 on Denver. If you can justify using him, then, they always got upside.
