LeVeon Bell ran for 236 yards on Sunday, and we should not be surprised. Those kind of big days for running backs are more likely to occur late in the season.
I’m not sure if this is because of weather (which could have been a contributing factor today). Or perhaps good teams tend to get better (and bad teams tend to get worse) as they figure out who they are. Injuries could be a factor. And with offenses, they can benefit when their offensive lines and running backs get their timing down.
But however you slice it, these kind of games become a lot more common late in the year.
Since 2000, there have been 75 games where running backs went for 200-plus yards. It’s happened only 10 times in Weeks 1-4. But it’s happened 31 times in the final four weeks of the season.
