Before the end of the year, I want to re-stack the board for dynasty leagues. I did wide receivers and tight ends last week. Now I’ll turn my attention to quarterbacks and running backs.
These rankings assume standard scoring, and they assume that once you have a player on your roster, you can keep them relatively cheaply each year. So on these rankings, I’m tending to elevate the younger guys who might be around for 10-plus years.
At the same time, the reality is players will be added and subtracted constantly, and there will be some opportunity to pick up emerging players. So there is some value to just selecting a really good quarterback who’ll be great in 2017. Those who select Drew Brees and Tom Brady, for example, will have a year or two to figure out who might be quarterbacking for them in 2019.
I’ve put those great veterans outside the top 10, behind some quarterbacks who aren’t as good but who are under 25 – Jameis Winston, Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott. It might smarter to just the really good quarterbacks standing right in front of us. (A year ago at this time, for example, many of us would have put Blake Bortles in the top 10, figuring he was both good and an emerging young guy.)
Anyway, here’s my stab at it. Running backs coming up next.
