Ricky Seals-Jones

Arrest report sounds overblown, but worth monitoring

Earlier this offseason we mulled the value of Ricky Seals-Jones. He's the likely starter at tight end for Arizona, or at least, the pass catching option even if Jermaine Gresham (Achilles) is healthy. Gresham is more likely the inline blocker.

Seals-Jones had some brief fantasy value last season, catching 2 TDs at Houston and another one against Jacksonville. He caught only 12 passes, but 5 of them were for over 20 yards. He averaged 16.8 yards per catch.

Having mentioned him as a possible fantasy sleeper, we'll acknowledge that an offseason incident could have some repercussions for him. He was arrested for assault last week. The headline sounds bad, although the incident itself looks a little bit silly. C'mon guys, let the man use the bathroom!

Anyway, an arrest is an arrest, and it's possible Roger Goodell, tirelessly working to protect fans and the NFL from any off-field actions that might put the league into a negative light, will slap Seals-Jones with a one-game suspension or somesuch. If so, that would lower his price tag on draft day.

There was a story about Seals-Jones at Arizona Central a little while back. New coach Steve Wilks indicated that they’re at least thinking about using Seals-Jones in the passing game, comparing him to Greg Olsen.

I don't think anyone can get too excited about Seals-Jones, and him possibly missing a game or two at the start of the season is a further negative. But not a guy you draft as a starter anyway, but more of a No. 2 who could possibly emerge. There are worse late-round stabs.
