NFL Injury Report

Sunday's key injuries

Freeman, Goodwin look iffy at best

The league has released the injury report for Thursday. I’ve read through it, and I see seven names that come to mind – ones that could affect fantasy lineups.

Devonta Freeman (knee) hasn’t practiced. Looking very likely that Tevin Coleman will get the start on Sunday in what I think will be a low-scoring alley fight against Carolina.

Marquise Goodwin (quad) hasn’t practiced the last two days for the 49ers. Note safe to assume he’s playing this week. If he sits, that might translate into more looks for guys like George Kittle and Pierre Garcon. I think they would start Dante Pettis, with Trent Taylor remaining their slot receiver.

Aaron Rodgers (knee) didn’t practice on Wednesday or today. They’re not saying if he’ll play. I’m thinking he will play, and they’re just playing mind games with the Vikings. Davante Adams (shoulder) returned to put in a limited practice today; I think he’ll be fine.

Carolina won’t have tackles Darryl Williams and Matt Kalil for the first half of the season. They lost Greg Olsen on Sunday. They also might be missing guard Trai Turner this week. He’s missed practice the two days because of a concussion. That’s not much of an offensive line that Cam Newton and Christian McCaffrey will be working behind. Damiere Byrd (knee) also hasn’t practiced – not a household name, but I think he’s one of the top half-dozen kick returners in the league.

Taylor Lewan (concussion) hasn’t practiced for Tennessee. He’s one of the best tackles in the league. Would be nice to have him in the fold as they try to get things back on track against Houston. I wouldn’t be excited about using Titans this week. Marcus Mariota (elbow) practiced fully Wednesday and was limited today; he’ll presumably be ready to go.

Chargers presumably will play at Buffalo without Joey Bosa (foot) and right tackle Joe Barksdale (knee).

Rex Burkhead (concussion) didn’t practice Wednesday but returned as a limited participant today. Plenty of time for him to get the green light to play. I expect he’ll be their starter.
