Question

Arizona on Wednesday selected Washington State safety Jalen Thompson in the supplemental draft. That pick will cost the Cardinals their fifth-round choice in the regular draft next April. Who was the last Washington State player chosen in an NFL supplemental draft?

Answer

Timm Rosenbach, also selected by these same Cardinals back in 1989. Two quarterbacks were selected with first-round picks in that supplemental draft: Steve Walsh (by Dallas) and Rosenbach. That cost those teams their first-round picks in the 1990 draft, and both teams would have been picking in the top 5. (Two Hall of Fame players were chosen in the top 5 in 1990: Cortez Kennedy and Junior Seau.) In part because of knee and back injuries, Rosenbach spent only four years in the NFL. He went 5-15 as a starter.
