It's Sunday morning and the injury updates are rolling in, including a key inactive from a game that kicks off at 9:30 Eastern. Dede Westbrook is inactive for the Jaguars, so those who picked up Chris Conley can consider him this week.
The Jaguars also have Keelan Cole, but note that in the last game, when Westbrook was sidelined early with that shoulder/neck injury, Conley saw 7 targets (only DJ Chark had more), catching 4 for 103 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown. Cole also scored but caught just 2 passes for 12 yards. I think if you picked up Conley this week, it was on the thought that he might be usable against a banged-up Texans secondary, should Westbrook be inactive. Well, here we go.
Other early news and notes:
There have been some conflicting reports on Patrick Mahomes, but the latest is that he's not expected to play, which had been our assumption all along. Matt Moore will draw the start, with Chad Henne (just off IR) backing him up. Mahomes should return in Week 10.
Adam Thielen (hamstring) is expected to play; that was also our assumption at the time of the Friday Update.
James Conner (shoulder) isn't expected to play. He was doubtful on the injury report; that's what doubtful means.
DeSean Jackson (abdomen) is expected to return for the Eagles. Tough matchup with Chicago, but Jackson has been pretty productive when on the field. Granted, that hasn't been the case for most of the season, but some upside with Jackson if you're willing to also assume the risk.
Cam Newton (foot) is apparently going to be out several more weeks, with injured reserve a possibility. Doesn't sound like anyone can count on having Newton available any time soon, if this season.
