The Eagles could be looking to trade Alshon Jeffery. A report by Connor Hughes of The Athletic suggests the veteran receiver doesn’t get along with Carson Wentz.
This traces back to October, when an anonymous player ripped Wentz in an ESPN report. Some feel that Jeffery was that player. Now, Hughes’ report suggests Jeffery wants out, and that the Eagles could like to accommodate him.
"League sources told The Athletic that Wentz and Jeffery never saw eye-to-eye and their relationship was testy," the report states. "The Eagles are looking to move Jeffery, league sources confirmed to The Athletic. And Jeffery would welcome the change of scenery."
Trading Jeffery could be easier said than done. He’s 30 and coming off a Lisfranc surgery that should sideline him until at least August. He’s also due a guaranteed $11.5 million; that’s a lot for an older receiver who’s not healthy.
The Eagles likely will be looking to add a notable receiver in the offseason. DeSean Jackson is 33 and played in only three games last year. They’re probably not interested in re-signing Nelson Agholor, who had more downs than ups in his five years with the team. Greg Ward played surprisingly well late last year, catching 28 passes in the final six games, but he’s a former AAF player who was a quarterback in college.
The Eagles drafted J.J. Arcega-Whiteside in the second round last year. With his size (6-2, 225) he could develop into a Jeffery-type receiver. But he didn’t play much as a rookie.
With Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert, the Eagles have the league’s best pair of tight ends, but they could use a top-end receiver.
Philadelphia last year was the only team that didn’t have a wide receiver with 500 yards. That’s rare. It’s happened with only 10 other teams in the last 20 years.
