The Jaguars shipped A.J. Bouye to the Broncos yesterday. They're apparently also hoping to deal veterans like Andrew Norwell and Brandon Linder. And Nick Foles, last offseason's free-agent gaffe that helped put the team in its current salary cap mess. Good luck with that one.

Foles' contract makes him pretty much untradeable, unless the Jaguars kick in a draft pick themselves -- the kind of deal we saw the Texans work with the Browns to dump Brock Osweiler a couple of years back. Maybe Jacksonville finds a taker. Possible, though unlikely.

What's a little surprising is that the Super Bowl MVP from just a couple of years ago looks like a bad investment even aside from the lousy contract. When playing last year, around getting injured, returning, and ultimately getting benched, he not only struggled to lead the offense but did a poor job of protecting the football. The vast majority of the quarterbacks worse than him were either struggling rookies or second-year players, aging veterans who were also dumped in the offseason or benched, or Jameis Winston.

Bad contract, bad play, and bad at taking care of the football -- not a good combination for a veteran quarterback.

There's one other interesting name at the bottom of this list: Jimmy Garoppolo. Interesting because of the crazy-sounding report yesterday that the 49ers might be interested in making a run at Tom Brady; yes, replacing the quarterback who just helped get them to a Super Bowl with a declining 43-year-old who, yes, has won a few Super Bowls himself.

I get the idea that Garoppolo was mostly along for the ride, ala Trent Dilfer with the Ravens, but he also had some good games along the way. And is about 15 years younger than Brady. If this story is actually serious and not some ridiculous concoction by Brady and his agent, I feel for San Francisco.

Anyway. Foles will be a backup somewhere in 2020. Probably in Jacksonville, unless the Jaguars are willing to cough up a decent pick to unload him.
