Garoppolo to start vs. Rams?

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan is hopeful that starting quarterback JIMMY GAROPPOLO will be available for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Garoppolo was benched for the second halfMore of last weekend’s loss to the Miami Dolphins, although the move had more to do with his bum ankle than his dismal performance. It sounds like Garoppolo will be back under center against the Rams as long as his ankle holds up. Less

Around the NFL: Oh no, Deebo

The idea of a Super Bowl hangover is real. The only team in the last 25 years to return to a Super Bowl the year after losing it is the Patriots (following their upset loss to Philadelphia). That's a history the San Francisco 49ers are trying to buck. It's not off to a good start.   more »

Shanahan has high praise for QB Garoppolo

If San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan is a fantasy football player, he likely has quarterback JIMMY GAROPPOLO higher on his draft board than most. Shanahan said recently that the 49ers starting quarterback has the ability to become one of the best of all time at the position.

Around the NFL: Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo helped get the 49ers to the Super Bowl last year, but no one would contend that he carried them. He basically handed the ball off in the team's two NFC playoff wins, and his season-long numbers were nothing special. In standard scoring systems, he finished the year as the 14th-ranked fantasy quarterback, and was outside the top 20 on a per-game basis (among those who started at least half the season).   more »

Around the NFL: Nick Foles

The Jaguars shipped A.J. Bouye to the Broncos yesterday. They're apparently also hoping to deal veterans like Andrew Norwell and Brandon Linder. And Nick Foles, last offseason's free-agent gaffe that helped put the team in its current salary cap mess. Good luck with that one.   more »

Factoid: Jimmy G

I think Jimmy Garoppolo will be just fine on Sunday. Not that he’s anywhere close to Patrick Mahomes, but he’ll be capable of making more than enough big throws in this game if needed.  more »

Factoid: Playoffs

If your favorite team didn’t make the playoff this year, don’t give up hope. If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that there will be substantial change in the standings each year. About half of the playoff field should be different at this time next year.  more »
