Question

What was the first Super Bowl that featured two head coaches who had previously won division titles with other franchises? (One of the two coaches is best known for his work with two teams that will play this week.)

Answer

Super Bowl VII. That was the game following the 1972 season, with Miami (with Don Shula) completing its 17-0 season by defeating Washington (coached by George Allen). For the 1967-69 seasons, Allen and Shula were both located in the NFL’s Coastal Division, overseeing the Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Colts. Both teams were good in all three of those seasons. Allen won two of those division titles, while Shula’s Colts won in 1968 (the team that went on to be upset by the Jets in the Super Bowl.)
