There's nothing better than NFL coaches calling someone "day-to-day" or "fine" right before he hits injured reserve. It's happened a bunch lately, and the week is still young.

  • The biggest instance this week regards Christian McCaffrey. The initial report the day after he left last week's game with a shoulder injury was that he was doubtful to play this week. Matt Rhule came out the next day and said that McCaffrey was day-to-day -- which theoretically means he could be perfectly fine a day later. Today we hear he's going for a second opinion on his injured shoulder and is unlikely to be available in Week 10. Fire up Mike Davis as a full-time running back, again.

  • Dolphins coach Brian Flores was noncommittal on Preston Williams' availability after suffering a foot injury in Sunday's game. I am not sure Flores has lied about either Williams or Myles Gaskin, he just provides no information and then places them on IR. Williams is out for at least the next three games, which should mean more targets for the other receivers: DeVante Parker for sure, and also Jakeem Grant, and either Mack Hollins or Antonio Callaway (on the practice squad). Might help Mike Gesicki, too.

  • John Harbaugh is a peach. When Mark Ingram went down with an ankle injury in Week 6, Harbaugh said Ingram had a "chance" to play a week later. It's Week 10 now, and maybe Ingram will be available, but apparently if a player isn't actually dealing with a broken bone, Harbaugh will say the guy has a chance to play.

  • Justin Jackson left the Chargers last game early with a knee injury. Anthony Lynn later said that Jackson could have returned, but we'll see when the team returns to practice this week. Jackson could either be perfectly fine or headed for IR.

Take what coaches say regarding injuries with a grain of salt. They're not required to care about your fantasy lineups, and rest assured they don't.
