Brees has more rib fractures than we knew

In a story that keeps sounding worse even if it isn't, the latest assessments of New Orleans QB DREW BREES revealed that he has more than twice as many rib fractures as was previously understood -- up from a total of five to a total of eleven. Brees's collapsed lung is said to be recovering nicely, but the consensus seems to be that he will take time to allow that, and the ribs, and a shoulder injury, to heal, with a return to action possible around Week 15 (vs. Kansas City, December 20). Meanwhile HC Sean Payton's decision to start TAYSOM HILL at quarterback ahead of JAMEIS WINSTON was reportedly not uniformly popular within the organization, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport suggests that Payton is anxious to know whether the 30-year-old Hill can be his quarterback of the future. Hill's audition begins in a couple of hours vs. Atlanta.
