As we head into the final third of the season, we’re going to see some lesser guys sliding into starting lineups. For Week 12, Brandon Allen and Mike Glennon lead the way.

It happens. Guys get hurt, and for 2020 there’s the added dimension of the coronavirus. So the clunker rate goes up, especially at the quarterback position.

The Bengals looks like they’ve got their guy in Joe Burrow; he’s going to be a good quarterback for a lot of years. But for the remainder of this season, they’ll likely be starting either Allen or Ryan Finley. The Jaguars are going with Glennon on Sunday. With luck, they’ll go back to Gardner Minshew in December (he’s at least averaged 265 passing yards as a starter this year, with 13 TDs in seven games.)

For these other three guys, it’s been a comedy of errors. For fantasy purposes, will be tough to put any of those guys in a lineup with any realistic hope of getting top-20 numbers at the position.

Collectively, those three quarterbacks – Allen, Glennon, Finley – have started 10 games in the last five years. In none of those games did any of those guys finish a game with over 200 yards and multiple touchdowns. (In only one of those games did a quarterback finish with 2 TD passes, and he threw for only 193 yards in that game.) Glennon passed for 301 yards for the Bears back in 2017, but with only one touchdown.

Collectively, these guys have gone only 2-8 as starters in the last five years. They’ve averaged 182 passing yards in those games, with 9 TDs and 9 interceptions (and 28 sacks, if you’re sizing up defenses).
