Question

In NFL history, what player finished with the most receiving yards without leading his own team in receiving yards? That is, this player had a big year, finishing with great numbers, but there was a receiver on his team who had an even better season. This player is retired but has a son who’s currently playing in the league.

Answer

Brett Perriman. Perriman in 1995 caught 108 passes for 1,488 yards. But Herman Moore that year caught 123 passes for 1,686 yards. Perriman’s son, Breshad Perriman, currently plays for Detroit. Three other players have gone over 1,400 receiving yards but finished with fewer yards than somebody else on their own team: Isaac Bruce (Rams, 2000), Emmanuel Sanders (Broncos, 2014) and Anquan Boldin (Cardinals, 2005).
