Question
With the Bengals having Joe Burrow and JaMarr Chase, the Dolphins having Tua Tagovailoa and Jaylen Waddle and the Eagles having Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith, there’s a chance a team will be led in passing and receiving yards by players who attended the same university. What is the only team that currently has a pair of players who’ve already done this? They did it in the 2019, but probably neither will start most weeks this season.
Answer
Pittsburgh, with Mason Rudolph and James Washington (who were a combo at Oklahoma State). Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins did this three times with the Texans, but that tandem has been broken up. Other previous combos: Jim Plunkett and Randy Vataha (Stanford and the Patriots) in 1971 and 1974; Marc Wilson and Todd Christensen (BYU and Raiders in 1984 and 1985); Steve Beuerlein and Rocket Ismail (Notre Dame and Panthers) in 1998; Kordell Stewart and Charles Johnson (Colorado and Steelers) in 1998; and Elvis Grbac and Derrick Alexander (Michigan and Kansas City) in 2000.
