Question

Marshall Faulk (1999-2001) and James Brooks (1988-1990) once had three straight seasons where they carried the ball over 100 times and averaged more than 5.0 yards per carry. Who are the only other two running backs who have done this since the merger in 1970 (not just one season, but three consecutive at 5.0)? Both streaks are active.

Answer

Gus Edwards and Nick Chubb. (Their teams go head-to-head this week, but Edwards is out for the year.) Note that the question specifically asked about running backs. Two quarterbacks have also did this. Michael Vick had three straight, and Cam Newton is the only player with four straight such seasons (in the first four years of his career).
