Sunday morning injury updates

Conner likely, Waller not

The injury updates are coming in, with some noteworthy ones not yet discussed this weekend. Running back James Conner (ribs) is expected to play, tight end Darren Waller (hamstring) is not. And Ryan Tannehill's status is shrouded in unnecessary secrecy.

  • The Cardinals are apparently planning to test out James Conner in pregame warmups. Are they planning to punch him in the rib cage? Sounds like he's playing. There's some risk in using Conner, in that he could have a setback, or play fewer snaps than usual, but I think there's more risk in using Eno Benjamin and counting on him playing more than half the time, and he hasn't proven to be as good in that role.

  • Darren Waller isn't playing. Nor is he being traded to Green Bay after the Packers apparently spent time leading up to the trade deadline being outbid on some players and turned away on others.

  • Ryan Tannehill might be dealing with a high ankle sprain. Seems likely to be Malik Willis, rather than Tannehill, starting tonight's big AFC game against Kansas City. I don't think anyone should need much help not to start any component of the Titans passing game no matter who's out there, but regardless, don't count on having Tannehill, and don't count on the team throwing enough to make Robert Woods usable, either.

  • Cam Akers is expected to play for the Rams. Playing well is less likely, but it sounds like a three-back committee in the league's 2nd-worst running game -- yes, somehow better than Tampa Bay's.

  • Damien Harris (illness) isn't expected to play, making Rhamondre Stevenson look great.

  • D'Andre Swift is expected to play, but in a limited role. Swift could, like last week, catch 5 passes and a touchdown, and be a nice fantasy choice. But if he doesn't score, those 4-5 catches for 30 yards won't look so great in a lineup.

  • Cordarrelle Patterson was activated off IR by the Falcons. That greatly reduces the appeal of Tyler Allgeier and especially Caleb Huntley, but a three-back committee is also a possibility.
