Question

50 years ago today, Franco Harris scored on the “Immaculate Reception”, lifting the Steelers to their first playoff win in franchise history. It’s still considered by many (perhaps most) to be the greatest play in league history. Who scored the only other touchdown in that game?

Answer

Ken Stabler. Daryle Lamonica was Oakland’s starting quarterback at that time, but Stabler replaced him in the second half. Stabler scored on a 30-yard touchdown run with 1:17 left, giving the Raiders a 7-6 lead to set up the wild finish.

Rons wife, Holly commenting here, I was a 12-year-old girl living in the Pittsburgh suburbs, forced to watch football with my Dad and brother every weekend, This very day 50 years ago, changed me into a Steeler Fan and Francophil,, There has never been a better man or Steeler in my estimation, Ambassador Emeritus for Pittsburgh, the Steeler organization, and Steeler nation. Well, all that football payed off, I am playing one of my sons in the fantasy playoffs this weekend and another son is playing my brother,
Words seem inadequate to express the Love and Admiration Franco so richly deserved and always will, may he RIP

Thanks for sharing. I am also a Franco fan. He was my first favorite player and helped to make me a Steelers fan. He was a good player and seemed to be a real classy guy. He embraced that city and made it his own.

I was a 9 year old Vikings fan at that time but have a lot of memories of Franco's Italian Army. Also remember Joe Paterno's response when asked the differnce between Franco & Lydell Mitchell. Said that if he said "All right fellas we gotta run thru that brick wall", Lydell would say "Let's go coach." Franco would go count the bricks and then come back and say "Let's go Coach."
