The trade deadline for the 2023 NFL season has passed, and some teams made moves that can boost their competitiveness. While the transactions lacked marquee names on offense, these roster changes could make a difference when everything falls into place.

Here’s a summary of the transactions on October 31, 2023, the final day of the trading window this season.

Josh Dobbs to Minnesota Vikings

While Kyler Murray is already practicing, the Arizona Cardinals announced that Clayton Tune will likely start in Week 9. With Joshua Dobbs relegated after being the team’s starter most of the way, the Minnesota Vikings acquired him after losing Kirk Cousins to a season-ending Achilles injury. The Vikings got Dobbs and a 2024 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2024 sixth-rounder.

Donovan Peoples-Jones to Detroit Lions

It’s a homecoming for the Detroit native as the Cleveland Browns traded wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones to the Lions. In return, the Browns get a 2025 sixth-round pick. Quarterback Jared Goff gets a new target in Peoples-Jones, who has eight receptions for 97 yards in the season. Peoples-Jones’ contract will expire at season’s end.

Jacksonville Jaguars add Ezra Cleveland

The Jaguars, one of the four teams with an AFC-leading 6-2 record, added protection for quarterback Trevor Lawrence by trading for guard Ezra Cleveland. In return, the Minnesota Vikings get a 2024 sixth-rounder. Cleveland will beef up the interior offensive line with Brandon Scherff and can help clear paths for running back Travis Etienne.

Rasul Douglas to the Buffalo Bills

While the Buffalo Bills have a legitimate playoff push, injuries have depleted their defensive secondary. Hence, they traded for cornerback Rasul Douglas, one of the leaders in the Green Bay Packers defense this season. Aside from Douglas, the Bills also got a 2024 fifth-rounder. In exchange, the Packers received Buffalo’s 2024 third-round selection.

Kentavius Street to the Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons traded for Street after losing defensive lineman Grady Jarrett to a season-ending ACL injury. Hence, the Philadelphia Eagles got a 2024 sixth-round pick in exchange for Street and a 2025 seventh-round selection. The Eagles’ vaunted defensive line afforded them this trade. They continue to be one of the NFL’s best units despite trading Street away.

Bears trade for Montez Sweat

The Washington Commanders and the Chicago Bears finalized a trade for defensive end Montez Sweat. As Chicago receives Sweat, the Commanders got a 2024 second-rounder in return. That pick could be a borderline first-round talent, given the Bears’ current record. With Sweat out, Washington still had Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, and Chase Young upfront until…

Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers

Despite having Nick Bosa, Clelin Ferrell, Drake Jackson, and Randy Gregory, the 49ers traded for Chase Young in exchange for their 2024 third-rounder. Even with this deal, San Francisco’s salary cap remains healthy, considering they’re paying pennies to Brock Purdy. Young has an expiring contract, and it’s interesting to see if the Niners will extend that deal.
