Yankees sign Marcus Stroman to a two-year deal

The New York Yankees and right-handed pitcher Marcus Stroman have agreed to a two-year deal, $37 million contract. He will get an $18 million option if he pitches 140 innings in 2025.

Stroman earned an MLB All-Star nod last season after having a solid start for the Chicago Cubs. However, he struggled toward the latter part of the season, dropping his earned run average to 3.95 with 119 strikeouts in 136.2 innings.

Stroman earned his first All-Star selection in 2019 as a Toronto Blue Jays player. In 2017, Stroman earned votes for the American League Cy Young Award after posting a 13-9 record with a 3.09 ERA.

He struck out 164 batters and had a 145 ERA+ in 201 innings. Those numbers earned his lone Gold Glove award in nine MLB seasons.

Stroman has a career with a 3.65 ERA and 116 ERA+. He started his career with the Blue Jays in 2014 after spending two years in the minor leagues. Five years later, the Blue Jays traded him to the New York Mets for Simeon Woods Richardson and Anthony Kay.

He earned ten wins in his full season with the Mets, the fourth time he reached double-digit wins in his career. After his Mets tenure, he signed a two-year deal with the Cubs.

Stroman will likely join the Yankees starting pitcher rotation featuring Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Nestor Cortes, Clarke Schmidt, and Luis Severino.
