Dodgers re-sign Kike Hernandez

The Los Angeles Dodgers re-signed utility player Kike Hernandez for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. He confirmed it himself via X (formerly Twitter). But as Hernandez re-joins the Dodgers, they traded away Manuel Margot and Rayne Doncon to the Minnesota Twins.

The Boston Red Sox traded Hernandez to the Dodgers last July for Justin Hagenman and Nick Robertson. It was his second stint with the Dodgers, returning to the squad after three years. With Los Angeles, Hernandez hit .262/.308/.423 with 30 runs batted in and five home runs.

Hernandez played for the Dodgers from 2015 to 2020. He joined the squad after the Miami Marlins traded him, Austin Barnes, Chris Hatcher, and Andrew Heaney in exchange for Dee Gordon, Dan Haren, and cash considerations.

The Puerto Rican won a World Series title with the Dodgers in what turned out to be the final year of his first stint. Six years earlier, he made his MLB debut with the Houston Astros on July 1, 2014. Thirty days later, he was sent to the Marlins with Austin Wates and Jarred Cosart for Colin Moran, Jake Marisnick, Francis Martes, and a compensatory pick.

Aside from his World Series victory, Hernandez is also a two-time Fielding Bible Award recipient. He is hitting .239/.311/.409 with 393 RBIs and 108 home runs in ten MLB seasons.
