Even with the salary cap for the 2024 NFL season increasing to $255.4 million, the Buffalo Bills still found themselves in a massive deficit. They’ve addressed this concern by completing several transactions that reduced their liabilities.

They restructured Von Miller’s contract, giving him an $8.855 million base value in 2024. Under the revised deal, the seven-time All-Pro defensive specialist can earn up to $20 million in incentives. This move saves the Bills $8.645 million in cap space.

Likewise, the Bills released center Mitch Morse, who was under the final season of his two-year, $19.5 million contract. However, the 2022 Pro Bowler will still carry a $3 million dead cap for 2024.

Buffalo also bid farewell to 2021 First Team All-Pro safety Jordan Poyer. He was in the second season of the two-year, $12.5 million contract he signed last year. Poyer will count $2 million against the Bills’ 2024 salary cap.

The Bills also released Deonte Harty and Siran Neal, leading to a combined $1,908,333 in dead money. If not released, they would have carried a $7.75 million average salary into 2024.

Cornerback Tre’Davious White won’t be with the Bills next season after his release was announced. However, he will be a post-June 1 designation, allowing the team to distribute his dead cap over two seasons.

Aside from shedding contracts off their books, the Bills re-signed Mitchell Trubisky as Josh Allen’s backup. He played this position before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers on a two-year, $14.25 million contract. They also agreed to a three-year, $14.5 million deal with Taylor Rapp.

While the Bills are still over the cap after these transactions, they only have to clear $9 million to become cap-compliant.
