Eagles Spending a Fortune On Offense

Over the Cap reveals that the Philadelphia Eagles have $28.7 million in cap space leading into the 2024 NFL Draft. This is the seventh-highest cap space and roughly $600,000 less than the sixth-place Arizona Cardinals. However, the price tag will increase due to their financial investments in offense in the coming seasons.

Jalen Hurts signed a five-year contract worth $255 million, the fourth-highest contract among quarterbacks regarding annual average value. Meanwhile, Saquon Barkley is the fourth-highest-paid running back, with a yearly average of $12.58 million.

The Eagles’ starting wide receivers, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, have the same annual valuation ($25 million), the fourth-highest rate among all players in their position. The spending spree doesn’t stop there because Dallas Goedert has the fifth-highest average salary ($14.25 million) among tight ends.

Meanwhile, Jordan Mailata ($22 million) and Lane Johnson ($20.1 million) are fourth and fifth in average salaries among offensive tackles. Finally, Landon Dickerson is the highest-paid offensive guard, pulling in a $21 million average.

Having these players for the foreseeable future should make the Philadelphia Eagles competitive over the next few seasons. However, they hope to avoid repeating their collapse in 2023, wherein they lost six of their last seven games, including their Wild Card Round showdown versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If everything goes well, they should remain one of the top contenders in the National Football Conference.
