Eagles Sign OT Mekhi Becton

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted that the Philadelphia Eagles plan to sign offensive tackle Mekhi Becton to a one-year contract worth up to $5.5 million. The deal is pending a physical, and Becton will beef up the tackle rotation, potentially playing in both left and right tackle.

The New York Jets selected Becton in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. He went off the board early because he was a 2019 First Team All-ACC member and Jacobs Blocking Award winner. But while he played 14 games during his rookie season, he played only one game over the next two years.

Becton played 48 snaps before suffering a knee injury that limited him to one game. A year later, he missed the 2022 season after suffering a kneecap fracture during training camp. The injuries prompted the Jets to refrain from exercising his fifth-year option.

However, he bounced back last season, playing 16 games and participating in 95 percent of the team's snaps. After All-Pro center Jason Kelce retired, the Eagles will need more depth on the offensive line. The Eagles also lost Jack Driscoll and Sua Opeta to free agency.

In addition to Becton, the Eagles selected guard Trevor Keegan in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft. They also signed undrafted free agents Gottlieb Ayedze and Anim Dankwah.
