Luis Gil Splendid in his Baseball Comeback

Undergoing Tommy John surgery forced pitcher Luis Gil to miss the 2023 Major League Baseball season. Now that he’s healthy, the Dominican pitcher is making up for lost time by delivering fantastic performances lately.

In his last five starts, Gil surrendered 12 hits and only two runs for a 0.59 ERA. He’s leading all pitchers in batting average against with .143. His last five starts fall in May, starting with his May 1 outing against the Baltimore Orioles, wherein he surrendered two hits and zero runs in 6.1 innings.

Six days later, Gil took the mound versus the Houston Astros, giving up a hit and a run in six innings. The Tampa Bay Rays fall prey to Gil on May 12, generating only three hits and zero runs in six innings.

Gil is on a rampage with 22 strikeouts in his last two games. He fanned 14 batters in six innings against the Chicago White Sox while giving up only one run out of five hits. In his previous start, he had eight strikeouts while giving up zero runs against the Seattle Mariners.

These performances have improved Gil’s record to 6-1 with a 2.11 ERA in ten games this season. He has 70 strikeouts and a 1.01 WHIP in 55.1 innings pitched. After his last start on May 23, his next start will occur during their three-game road series against the Los Angeles Angels from May 28-30.
