The Commanders two months ago signed Brandon McManus to a contract worth $3.6 million. They might be regretting that decision. Two flight attendants have filed a lawsuit against McManus and the Jacksonville Jaguars, accusing him of sexual assault during a team flight to London last year.
The suit accuses McManus of rubbing himself against them and grinding against them. They also accuse the Jaguars of failing to supervise McManus on the chartered flight. The women are seeking $1 million in damages.
No doubt the league will be looking into the matter. What that investigation reveals and how the case is resolved remains to be seen, but regardless, it’s not the kind of publicity any team wants to be associated with. (Especially Washington, with its history of work-place problems.)
And McManus is not only a kicker but a modest kicker. Over the past five years, 25 active kickers (currently on a roster) have attempted at least 80 field goals. McManus ranks next-to-last in accuracy among that group.
He’s missed only 3 extra points in the last three years, but McManus has been only average on PATs over the last five years.
The $3.6 million contract McManus signed in March included a signing bonus of $1.5 million.
