The Patriots selected Maye after the Chicago Bears and the Washington Commanders drafted Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, respectively. He was the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year after tallying 342 completions for 4,321 yards and 38 touchdowns in 14 games. He added 1,209 yards and 16 touchdowns in three seasons with the North Carolina Tar Heels.
While Maye is already under contract, his status as the Patriots’ starter remains uncertain. Head coach Jerod Mayo and his offensive staff will assess whether he can start from Week 1 or have Jacoby Brissett take over as a bridge quarterback.
