Billy Price Announces Retirement Due to Medical Condition

Center Billy Price was betting on himself to make an NFL return. It’s been two years since he last appeared in an NFL regular season game, and he didn’t make the active rosters of the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys last year.

Unfortunately, he won’t continue his NFL journey after announcing his retirement due to a pulmonary embolism. Price expressed in an Instagram post:

”As a healthy 29-year-old, an unprovoked pulmonary embolism with no further medical explanation is terrifying. I am truly thankful to be alive today. Unfortunately, I will be retiring from the NFL as the risk of an internal bleed while on blood thinners creates tremendous risk.”

The Cincinnati Bengals selected Price in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. The AFC North franchise had high hopes for him after he became a Unanimous all-American and won the Rimington Trophy the year before.

However, he did not live up to lofty expectations, leading the Bengals to decline his fifth-year option. Before the 2021 season, the Bengals traded him to the New York Giants for defensive tackle B.J. Hill.

Before joining the Cardinals in 2022, Price tried his luck with the Las Vegas Raiders but reached the practice squad. The former Ohio State standout started 45 of the 69 games he played while tallying two tackles and three fumble recoveries.
