49ers Sign WR Jauan Jennings to Two-Year Extension

The San Francisco 49ers and wide receiver Jauan Jennings agreed to terms on a two-year extension worth up to $15.4 million. However, the deal’s realistic nature is more like a one-year extension worth $10.5 million.

The 49ers guaranteed the latter amount to complete this deal. However, Jennings wasn't under contract because he didn't sign his free-agent tender. As a restricted free agent, Jennings can entertain offers from other teams, but the 49ers have the right to match that contract.

Therefore, the first year of his two-year extension will take effect this season. He will be a free agent again after the 2025 season. With a contract in place, Jennings can start attending OTAs for the 2024 NFL season.

With the Niners still working on Brandon Aiyuk's contract extension, signing Jennings brings stability to their receiving corps. Last season, the former Tennessee standout had 19 receptions for 265 yards and a touchdown.

In three regular seasons with the 49ers, the seventh-round pick has 78 receptions for 963 yards and seven touchdowns. Meanwhile, Jennings has 20 catches for 221 yards and a touchdown in nine postseason games.

If San Francisco decides to trade Aiyuk, his production should increase. But if Aiyuk remains with the 49ers, Jennings will find himself competing for playing time. In addition to Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, the Niners added Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing through the draft.

Ronnie Bell, Danny Gray, Chris Conley, Tay Martin, Trent Taylor, and Terique Owens will also battle for spots in the 53-man active roster.
